Castor Oil Treatments

Meet Castor Oil:

The castor bean (Oleum ricini) is also known as Palma Christi. It is know for its healing properties, as a strong laxative when taken by mouth, and mostly for it’s gentle lymphatic circulator effects when used topically.

When castor oil is absorbed through the skin, it helps to improve liver and gallbladder function, digestion and digestive motiliy. It is soothing, cleansing, calming and nutritive in its effects.

Castor oil treatments should be done at least 4 consecutive days per week. People who apply it daily will receive the most benefit. When you first begin your treatment routine, you should apply daily for at least the first month.

How to:

  • Place approximately 2 tablespooons of castor oil over your entire abdomen and rub in a clockwise direction.

  • Cover the oil with a peice of flannel, either organic cotton or wool, to protect your clothing and sheets.

  • Consider adding a hot water bottle on top to increase effectiveness

  • Sit quietly and relax

  • Leave pack on for at least 30 minutes but you can also fall asleep and simply remove in the morning. Also consider using an ace bandage to hold the flannel in place.

  • Store the flannel in a Ziploc bag or other storage container between uses. After a few months, the fabric can be washed or replaced with a new peice.

Take it to the next level:

This is an excellent time to practice visualization, mediation, hypnoses, or deep breathing. As you breathe in through your nose, force your lower abdomen to swell like a balloon. With each breath out through your mouth, practice relaxing your jaw and shoulders.

You can also apply castor oil while you watch tv, read or meditate. Whatever your preference, find a way to work it into your daily routine, just as you would with teeth-brushing.

Remember:

*Castor oil will stain fabic over time, so be careful with cute pajamas and nice bedding.
