Natural Hormone Therapies

Estrogen is a dramatic hormone!!!
Too little estrogen causes problems. Too much estrogen causes problems.

But the right amount creates true vitality, protects the brain, the bones, the breast, the skin, and the nervous system.

Knowing your levels can be tricky without testing. Hormone symptoms are so broad they can mimic many other health imbalances. So thank goodness for testing, which can reveal exact levels, down to the picogram per milliliter.

Here is an example of a hormone test, showing levels and an outline of the estrogen metabolism pathway.

Red = abundant levels
Green = normal levels
Blue = low levels

How to Change Hormone Levels

We can then use research to understand how to modify enzyme activity (the little grey boxes). For example, down regulating CYP1A1(also known as aromatase) will reduce the level of E1 (Estrone), which would be a goal of this case.

Ways to reduce aromatase include: resistance exercise, stress management, reducing alcohol intake, cutting back on processed foods, weight loss, increasing fruits and veggies, zinc, resveratrol, chrysin, and consuming various other flavonoids found in plant matter.

Some Additional Food/Herb Researched-Based Therapies to Create that Goldilocks Estrogen Level:

  • Resveratrol (rich in grape skins)

  • Green tea

  • Citrus fruits

  • Carrots

  • Celery

  • Tomatoes (rich in lycopene)

You
