Add Spice To Your Life

A balanced digestive system allows you to eat a meal and feel comfortable after, with no bloating, gas, burping, acid symptoms, or lethargy.

You have one to two healthy daily bowel movements without pushing and without leaving material on the toilet paper after wiping. You have radiant skin and stable energy, day after day.

Sounds great, right?

But what if you are like most, and experiencing one or more of the following:

  • Burping

  • Bloating

  • Gas

  • Constipation

  • Diarrhea

  • Heartburn

  • Nausea

  • Indigestion

  • Puffiness

  • Bad breath

  • Food allergies

  • Skin rashes

  • Sinus congestion

  • Chronic itching

  • Dark undereye circles

  • Fatigue - especially after eating

  • Autoimmune disease

These symptoms indicate you need to improve the strength of your digestive system, also called "agni".

One of the more effective, not to mention easy ways to improve the strength of your digestive system . . .

Add more spice to your life!

Most kitchen spices are energetically warming (this different than spicey heat) and therefore can increase the digestive fire necessary to transform food into body cells and tissues in order to maintain a healthy digestive system.

While there are many many spices, I will describe one of my favorites this week:

CARDAMOM:
Taste: pungent and sweet
Action: heating
Balancing for all body types
Supports balanced stomach acid levels
Promotes a healthy appetite
Freshens breath
Eliminates excess mucus
Supports the lungs for clear breathing

Ways to use:

  • 1/4 to 1/2 tsp ground cardamom in warm water 1-2 times per day

  • Pairs well with poultry, red meat, lentils, oranges, rice and other spices like nutmeg and cinnamon

  • Wonderful in curries, teas, and sausages

  • My favorite is cardamom in a chai masala

  • Also roasted pears with cardamom

*There is currently a global shortage of cardamom due to harsh and unpredictable weather events in the regions where this delicate plant grows. It's pricey, second only to saffron, but the good news is you don't need much to enjoy its benefits.

Tell me, what is your favorite spice?
